Jua Cilliers is the Head of the School of Built Environment, and Professor of Urban Planning at the University of Technology Sydney (Australia), as well as adjunct Professor at North-West University (South Africa). She holds professional registrations from both the South African Council for Planners and the Planning Institute of Australia. Jua is the Co-Chair of the Climate Action Working Group of the Commonwealth Association of Planners and Board Member of the International Society of City and Regional Planners. In 2019 she was the recipient of the National Teaching Award for Teaching Excellence in South Africa. She was a finalist of the National Science and Technology Forum Awards and prize winner at the Woman in Science Awards. In 2021 she received the North-West University Award for Excellence in Community Engagement. Her research expertise pertaining to the planning of sustainable cities, smart cities and strategic spatial planning.
